License Plate Game

car games license plate gameThe idea behind this car game is to find a license plate from each of the 50 states, or at least as many as you can. You can download the list of states or a map of the United States of America and let kids check them off as they travel. For older kids, have them also name the state capitol or a fact about each state they find.

“Find find an object car gamesan Object” Game

Select a fairly common object, such as an American Flag or a star. Once you have determined the object, make sure everyone in the car agrees on how they will call out the object and earn their point. For example, a player must say, “Found a flag” and point to the flag that they found. Each player should keep track of their own points and whoever has the most points at the end of the drive wins. If you want to make the game even more challenging, choose an object that signifies a negative point. If someone points out a negative point they get to take away a point from another player.

Auto Trivia

What better time to bone up on your car trivia then on a road trip? Download this list of basic automotive trivia and see what you and your family know about autos. The trivia is sectioned out by difficultly level so hopefully everyone can participate.

Trivia – Gtrivia car gameseography, History, Math, Science, Music

If there is a subject that your family or children really enjoy, make a list of trivia questions. Pick one person to dole out the questions as you go. You can make it an individual point system or everyone in the family can work together to answer the questions. Here are a few lists of questions that are ready to print and take on your trip: Geography, History, Math, Science, and Music.

Make your own Game Show

Use your knowledge of random facts to your advantage and turn your car into a traveling car game show. Ask questions that you know the answers to. If you are a car buff, have kids try to guess the model, make, and year of a passing car. If you are a sports junky, ask them who won the World Series in 2012 (San Francisco Giants, in case you were wondering). Love history? Quiz your kids about everything you know about the last 500 years. To make the game more interesting, integrate a stop light challenge. The stop light challenge is a speed challenge where players are asked to list as many sports teams, presidents or farm animals they can think of before the car starts moving again. If you are really serious about it, pay the kids a penny or a dime for each point they earn and then let them spend their “winnings” at the next rest stop!

Category Song Gamemusic car games

The idea of this game is to name (or even better, sing) as many songs as you know in the selected category. First choose a category. You can select a word, like rain, that can be in the title or chorus of the song for a category or you can select a genre, such as Christmas or Disney songs. Everyone takes a turn naming or singing a song until someone is stumped! The person who is stumped chooses a new category.

Song Battle – Copy That Word

In this car game, one person starts with 10 words from any song. Then the next person has to take a word in that song and start a new song with the same word. So if the first song is, “Old McDonald had a farm, EIEIO,” then the next person could sing, “I had the time of my life and I owe it all to you!” Each person gets a turn and the game goes, round and round until someone gets stuck.

Radio Scan Battle

For this game, someone has to man the scan button on the radio. Once the scan is hit, everyone in the car has to guess the song title and artist before the scan button moves to the next station.

mouse car gamesMouse Game

This game is an old favorite from way back! Everyone in the car has to be silent as a mouse. The first person to make a noise is out. This is a parent favorite, but the kids seem to like it too.
