Change a Key Remote

WARNING: If your vehicle is under warranty and you do not change the battery correctly and/or you cause damage, you may void your warranty on the key remote. Proceed with caution.

NOTE: Key remotes are actually called keyless entry remote transmitters.

NOTE: You will need a miniature screw driver set and replacement battery to complete this task. You can purchase batteries at almost any large general merchandise store. There are many types of batteries. If you can’t locate the type of battery you need in the battery section, check in the electronic or jewelry departments.

. Remove the key(s) and ring from the key remote if they are detachable.

1. Remove the key(s) and ring from the key remote if they are detachable.

 Locate the slot - key remote

2. Locate the slot. This is where you will gently pry open the back of the remote. Some key remotes have a screw instead of a slot.

Completely remove the back - key remote

3. Completely remove the back.

Slide the old battery out of the key remote and replace it with the new battery

4. Slide the old battery out of the key remote and replace it with the new battery. Put the back on and you are done.

NOTE: Some batteries are easier to remove than others. The one on the left took some maneuvering (and a little banging – so please be gentle) to remove the battery.
